  	In 1840, his father moved his family to Monroe county, Missouri.

  	He moved up in rank from Private to First Lieutenant (after the battle of Wilson Creek, Aug 10, 1861) to Captain (after battle of Lexington, Missouri, Sep 13-20, 1861) for the Confederate Army under Brigadier General Rain. [1] Shortly after the Missouri state guards were disbanded and the soldiers joined the Confederate army (after Sept 1861), he was captured and held prisoner by the Federal troops for about two months. He was released by taking the oath and giving bond. This was the end of his military career. [1]

  	He, his wife, Iantha, and their one year old daughter, Martha, came to Oregon via the Oregon Trail.

  	Per the source, George Warran Woodson called it Klarnath Lake but I believe that to be a transcription error and that it was supposed to read Klamath county, although at the time it could have been known as Klamath Lake county. There is no Klarnath Lake or Klarnath county in Oregon.

  Notes	He was never a member of any church or lodge. [1] He initially "voted the democratic ticket" but, beginning about 1901, he began to vote Republican.
